Servers and shared storage let your team work from the same files, applications and backups. The right size depends on how many people use them and what happens if they go down.
Questions to ask first
- How many users need access at the same time?
- Which applications must run on-site, and which can run elsewhere?
- How much data do you have, and how fast is it growing?
- How long can you afford to be offline?
Shared storage
A network storage unit gives everyone one place to save files and makes backups simple. Choose enough capacity for growth and look for disk redundancy so a single failed drive does not mean lost data.
Whatever you choose, protect it with a UPS and a tested backup. Hardware fails eventually; the point is to make sure it never takes your business with it.
